         PROLOGUE
The sight of the moon on a plain sheet of awakening dawn was alluring. Its light reflected on the water as it rolled and whispered softly. The air was calm. A time when every living creature would be in a deep slumber. Someone wasn't. Max was on his usual night patrol along the beach. There hasn't been any cases in months but this was his job. One could never tell. After some minutes of survey,  he sat on the soft sand and looked into the sky admiringly. He looked down at the water, seeing the images of the reflected light. Soon enough thoughts of taking a dip in the sea formed in his mind. It definitely wasn't right because he was on duty. However the thoughts of doing it choked the thoughts of not doing it. He wasn't wearing his flak jacket since it was a night patrol on a lonely beach.
He took off his shirt and was about to take off his white vest when he heard a soft whimpering. Fear gripped his heart as he struggled to pull his shirt back on. 'Had someone been watching?' He called out, "Is someone out there?" He waited for a reply but got none. Retrieving his wide head torch from where he had kept it and switching it on, he turned it from side to side. The agitated cop waited quietly with a fastly beating heart. The whimpering came once again. Max moved backward and shone the light towards the direction that the sound came from. He was able to see a figure, a motionless figure. "Something isn't right here" he thought.
He approached slowly to discover that a young child laid on the floor motionless, whimpering at intervals. The body was wet. Cop Max turned the child over. It was a girl with her hair cut very short. She wore a small blue t-shirt and black jeans. He noticed that she was shivering and her eyes were tightly shut. Immediately he called for an ambulance which arrived in a short time. The little girl was wheeled into the back of the van where a drip was passed into her body. The cop joined the van because he knew that some answers would be required.
As the van moved out of the beach,  two figures formed in the shadows.
"They have her now, she belongs to the state"
"We won't have anymore of the Vaughn clan in a long time"
"She'll come back. She has her father's blood running in her veins”.
" Well , till then. We have enough time to prepare to ward off any vengeance".
The shadow figures moved a few steps and dived into the sea.
