Stats dont lie: drug abuse, a random walk through a random forest?

A consultant psychiatrist, Bayo Aduwo, believes that of the over half a million bottles of codeine consumed by Nigerians daily, about 300,000 are sold in the North alone. [The Nigerian Express, 2018]

We can see the alarming rate at which drugs are being misused in Nigeria. More than 40% of Nigerian youths engage in substance abuse. Reports from different drug related agencies and researches in Nigeria put Kano ahead of other states and Abuja in terms of drug convictions.

In its 2012 National Baseline Youth Survey report, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) surveyed 46, 836 young people with criminal convictions; 75.5% were male and the remaining 24.5% were female. [The Nigerian Newspaper, 2018]

The glory of our dear nation is embedded in the strength of her youths, so precious is our tomorrow's leaders might. We dare not miss it!

Facts on Drug Abuse
According to a documentary released by BBC on April 30, 2018:

- Over 6 million bottles of Codeine are consumed in North western part of Nigeria.

- Over 15 million youths between the age of 10-25 in Nigeria are involved in drug abuse.

According to WHO 2018 reports:

-  some 31 million persons have drug use disorders.

-Almost 11 million people inject drugs, of which 1.3 million are living with HIV, 5.5 million with hepatitis C, and 1 million with both HIV and hepatitis C.

Effects of drug abuse on road accidents, sexual assaults and rape can't be overestimated;

based on FRSC 2016 reports, of the 9494 accidents recorded in 2016, 8544 were as a result of alcohol. At least,  90% of rapes perpetrated by an acquittance of the victim involve alcohol, cannabis and cigarettes.

The cultivation as well as seizure of cannabis(by NDLEA) has skyrocketed over the years; In 1999, 2000 and 2014, NDLEA seized 16kg, 272 000kg, 53,719,342.32kg of cannabis respectively.
