(Chapter 2)
"Good morning Tessa."
"Hi. Morning Alaina. Good to see you. Someone came to see you and he left a message".
"He??"
"Yes a young man came looking for you. Rather an handsome man Alaina".
Why did she wink?
"Tessa, I don't know what you're thinking. I also have no idea who you talking about."
She handed me a business card with a name and a number behind it. That was the message.
*Braden Willian*
"I don't know, Alaina, but I still think One Hour Before is the better movie. I mean it's funny, emotional and it depicts what's going on in reality though it appears rather fictional. The actors are so professional, so real...."
I felt Ace was better because it seemed like the movie was referring to me. Not totally though but a large part of it made the main character just like me.
Aadarsha, the heroine was a young adult. Well she was eighteen. She was quite nice to look at but she was a stunning beauty when she's all dressed up. It was rather unfortunate that more than half of the time, impending circumstances did not let her beauty show to its height. It was only once.
On the 21st of January, Aadarsha Baden was born. Her parents were so happy because she was their first child. They were only a year married and still very in love with each other.
Aamira and Dylan Baden showered so much love on Aadarsha. She got all the newest clothes and fancy toys. Aamira was the happiest woman anywhere around. It was this feeling of a fairytale princess. But just when you think you're happy, something comes out of the blue and like a dream, her world turned upside down.
"Aamira, I think your sauce should be spicier than this, that's the true joy to derive in eating with this sauce".
Aamira laughed when she heard her husband say that.
"When did you start learning about sauces, you seemed to always eat without knowing what sauce you've eaten".
Dylan frowned slightly but he kept his face from his wife.
"Eira made the same sauce today and it was.........(taking a deep breath) tasty. I had to ask her to make some more so I'll have them tomorrow. I expected that you'd make the same that's why I asked you to prepare it. Seems hands differ, anyway there's something to look forward to tomorrow. I'm going to have a shower."
Aamira was shocked. Maybe stunned was the better word. Dylan had never refused her food. He ate four times daily at the minimum. Then a question came up,
'Eira made the same sauce'.
Eira wasn't a total stranger to Aamira. She knew that Eira worked with Dylan in the same department.
Why would Dylan eat Eira's food? Why? How?
Aadarsha started crying so Aamira was forced out of her moment of shock.
She got to bed but couldn't sleep.
And that was the last Dylan ate of her food.
Soon everything came to a standstill.
Dylan flared up all the time.
Aamira appealed with him, at first wanting to know how she had wronged him. Later all she did was apologise and seek his forgiveness.
He left whenever he wished and never came back for weeks.
Aamira resolved not to talk to anyone about it. She put herself so much into work to keep her mind off Dylan. Whenever he went off, he was usually unreachable. Often she thought of locating Eira's house where she felt her husband was probably staying.
Aadarsha soon started to talk. Aamira had just dressed her up after her bath when she gurgled and said 'momma'. Aamira gasped,
"Baby, say momma" "momma"
Aadarsha repeated it.
Aamira fought hard to hold back her tears.
Her tears were almost natural because it was so thrilling to hear her child talk. But what really hurt was Dylan's absence. This was one of the times they had been waiting for. He had promised never to leave. He promised to make her a top priority. He promised that they'd take care of their kids together. He promised a blissful forever.
Slowly and painfully, Aamira got accustomed to her new life. She lacked almost nothing by the way. Money wasn't a problem, she had all the aides she'd ever need as well.
Aadarsha still got all the things she wished for.
"Aamira, where's your husband, I haven't seen him in a long while. He hasn't called in many months and my calls all end in voicemails
" Mum. I'm so sorry I should have informed you before now, Dylan's gotten a job upstates and he won't be back in a while. As soon as he calls, I'll tell him to reach out to you".
And that's how Aamira got by.
Her time was split between her job and her daughter. Several times, she was asked out for lunch and dinner dates but she turned them all down. Not in this lifetime, she always said to herself.
Few years into the journey, Aadarsha was about to be a five years old girl. All of the Christmas holidays was shopping, going to the movies, to the park, to the restaurant that made the best chicken.
Aamira made sure to give her daughter a wonderful treat. As she hoped and silently prayed for, Aadarsha never asked for her father.
The 29th of December was their fifth year anniversary.
Aamira worked in the house all morning then she settled unfinished business with her clients online.
At night, she opened a bottle of wine with the intention of getting herself drunk but she couldn't. She looked over at her sleeping daughter.
"I love you so much Aadarsha"
She kissed her lightly and carried her to her room. Looking over one last time at the sleeping child, tears roll down her cheeks.
Her phone rang from the living room but she ignored it. Not tonight. She had to have son time alone and there was no better place but the pool. After two more rings, there was a knock at the door. Aamira was jolted. Her heart pounded very fast as she hurriedly put on her bathrobe and walked cautiously towards the door.
She looked through the peephole and on recognizing her late night visitor, she opened the door a little. This couldn't be possible, but he was there in person.
He came in before she changed her mind and like a controlled toy, he went down on his knees. All he could mutter was how sorry he was. He was soon weeping like a child. Everything played out like a dream. A dream that Aamira didn't risk dreaming. In her head, she wanted to pus him out and embarrass him, she wanted to make him feel the pains she had been feeling. She wanted to show him how well she had done without him. So many thoughts of vengeance came rushing through her mind.
But her heart said, pull him closer, he's the man you once loved, the father of your daughter, you still love him and he's here weeping profusely and begging for forgiveness.
Aamira pulled him up. She had so many questions but none of them was as important as Why. They both cried and Dylan finally summoned courage to embrace her. When her tears appeared to have subsided, he whispered very softly into her hears
"Happy Anniversary"
She looked up at him.
"You remembered"
"I never forgot", he lifted his fingers and his ring was still there.
Did he really not take it off?? It was so hard to tell.
"Aamira please forgive me. I was overcome with envy all along. I couldn't stand the thought of you making more money, I felt like I failed, it wasn't what I promised you. To cover up my weakness I resolved to hatred. I hated you with such a passion. But these last three years haven't been the same without you."
She stood speechless.
He moved closer to her
"Aamira, I miss you and I want you back in my life".
All of the pain couldn't stop haunting her but she couldn't fight that she was still in love. She hugged him.
"I missed you too Dylan".
He withdrew from the embrace and like the old days, when she wasn't expecting, he kissed her.
And the rest was history.
