Kenya's capital and largest city is Nairobi. The first capital of and the oldest city in Kenya is coastal city Mombasa.
Kenya gained independence from the United Kingdom on the 12th December, 1963.
The official languages in Kenya are: English and Swahili.
The Currency in Kenya is the Kenyan Shilling.
1. The biggest five animals; Rhinos, Leopards, Lions, Buffalo and Elephants can all be found in Kenya.
2. Hunting any protected animal is a criminal act in Kenya.
3. Mount Kenya is the second highest mountain in Africa and highest in Kenya.
4. Lake Victoria is the world's second largest freshwater lake. Kenya shares it with Tanzania and Uganda.
5. Mount Kenya national park and Lake Turkana national park are world heritage sites in Kenya.
6. Tsavo is the largest national park in Kenya.
7. Kenya is widely known around the world for its distance runners. The country frequently has runners win Olympic medals for middle and distance running. Kenya's Kalenjin tribe has been dubbed the running tribe for its unbelievable ability to spawn world record breaking runners.
8. Tourism and coffee are the biggest industries in Kenya.
9. Any little gathering is an excuse to prepare Nyama Choma, popular Kenyan dish. It is Swahili for Roast meat. Hence it's a dish made of meat. The common meat is goat meat but beef is sometimes used too in the absence of goat. It is often accompanied by side dishes like salad and ugali.
Ugali is another staple food in Kenya. It is a cornmeal porridge served as accompaniment to soups and stews.
10. Kenya doesn't have a middle class. Their citizens are either very rich or living below the poverty line.
11. The literacy rate in Kenya is about 78%. A large number of tge children don't go to school because they have to help at home with house chores and work on the farm.
